Employer-brand video: show the job, not the atmosphere

Recruitment films all look alike: people smiling in an open-plan office, upbeat music, the word “caring”. They recruit nobody. What decides a candidate is seeing the job: the gestures, the places, the hours, the colleagues, what is hard about it.

Why do most recruitment videos fail to recruit?

Because they answer the wrong question. They answer “why we are a good company” when the candidate is asking “what will my Monday look like”.

A candidate weighing 2 offers does not compare values. They compare a commute, a team, a kind of day, a 3-year outlook. The film that wins is the one that answers, even when the answer is not flattering.

What works instead?

The job film. 1 role, 1 person, 3 minutes. What they do, with what, with whom, what surprised them when they arrived. One film per family of hard-to-fill roles beats one general film about the company.

The day in the life. From the morning badge to the end of the shift. It answers the questions nobody dares ask at interview.

The honest testimonial. One colleague saying what was hard in the first 3 months is 100 times more credible than 10 saying the atmosphere is great. It takes a clear internal agreement before shooting, and it is what makes the difference.

The short vertical format. 30 to 60 seconds, subtitled, designed to be watched without sound: the format that actually travels on the networks where candidates are.

How do you get people who have never been filmed to talk?

That is the part of the job that does not show in the result.

No script to learn. A conversation prepared in advance: I know what the person is going to say, they do not know exactly which question is coming. The camera runs for a long time, we keep 3 sentences.

The place matters: people are filmed at their post, not in a neutral meeting room. Someone holding their tool speaks better than someone sat in front of a white wall.

And one rule I set every time: nobody is filmed without knowing where the film will be shown. A release signed by someone who did not understand what they were signing ends up turning against the film.

How many films do you need?

Start with one, on the role that is hardest to fill. If it produces applications, the rest justifies itself; if not, you have learned something for 1 film rather than 6.

A full set is built afterwards: 3 to 5 job films shot over 2 days, plus the vertical cutdowns. Grouping the shoots divides the cost per film.

What does an employer-brand video cost?

  • Short format : from €1,800
  • Corporate film : from €3,500
  • Full set of deliverables : from €6,500
  • Live capture : quoted per event
