Filming events while they run

AGP handles front-of-house for major events: access control, cashless payment, crowd flow. AGP sent me backstage at Solidays, the Fête de l'Humanité and LOU Rugby home games, to show the work as it actually happens, where nothing can be shot twice.

0 second takes available: everything is shot while the event runs
3 major venues covered, several shooting days at each
5 jobs to show: access, tills, bars, crowd flow, software
30 years of event front-of-house behind AGP: a field that punishes improvisation
Event crowd, hands raised in the light

The context

AGP, a Lyon supplier of event front-of-house: access control, payment, bars, crowd flow, accreditation. Its venues: from LOU Rugby to the Stade de France, by way of the Fêtes de Bayonne.

The need: show each job where it happens, at its 3 biggest venues.

The constraint

A stadium filling up, a bar in full rush, access control as the doors open. A dense crowd to film without obstructing it or showing individuals, and a shoot that blends into the operation rather than disrupting it.

The setup

  • A light, mobile setup
  • Accreditation and ground coordination in advance
  • Blackmagic, a cinema register: we tell an adventure, not a service delivery
  • Sound recording suited to crowd noise
  • Image rights: crowd framing, releases for individual shots

The deliverables

  • Backstage films, every job as it really happens
  • Capability content by division: payment, access, flow
  • 11 videos delivered, all in horizontal format

Outcome

1 assignment, 3 venues

Solidays, the Fête de l'Humanité, LOU Rugby: several days at each, and no second take.
